Mehdi Khodabandehlu, a graduate of architecture from the School of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran, initiated his professional career in architecture during his student years by collaborating with various offices and companies. After graduation, he commenced teaching architecture part-time at the university and concurrently engaged in work at different offices. During this period, he achieved first place in architectural sketch competitions. Subsequently, he undertook the teaching of sketching and introductory design courses at the university.

His interest in visual arts prompted him to organize exhibitions and showcase his works to students and the general public. In 1392, he established his own personal office, Avan, and actively participated in architectural projects alongside domestic and international competitions. Several of
these projects have been selected as winners and finalists in both domestic and international competitions. Presently, he is involved in teaching architecture as well as designing and constructing his own personal projects.
